So here we are in July! It seems
like it was just April and we were in Mount
Pleasant. After the spring workshop, some of us
went to Orlando and the 39th AST National
Conference. Although I am not wishing my life
away, I am looking forward to the Fall
Conference in Traverse City in October. It seems
like time really does fly by.
I remember when my mom and aunts
would discuss how quickly time goes by as we get
older. As a young child, I always felt that time
dragged by too slowly. As I grew up, I wished
for certain things: to be older, to drive, to
date, to graduate, to work, to vote, to marry
and to have children. As a young mother, I
wanted to see that first tooth, first step, and
first word. As my children grew, I was there for
their first day of school, all of the plays and
performances; I watched them play soccer,
basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and football,
graduate from High School, become employed,
marry, and have children. Although there were
days that I thought my life as a mom would never
change or move forward to the next stage, I
believe my mom and aunts were right: Time really
does fly.
Surgical Technology has been as
big of a portion of my life as my children. The
friends, acquaintances, and peers have
contributed so much to my way of life. I have so
many moments to savor.
I still remember my first day in
an Operating Room, the first surgery I observed,
the name of my first preceptor and the first
service that I scrubbed in; as well as, my first
solo procedure, first emergency, and first tears
shed for an unwelcomed experience.
I can still recall the day I sat for my
certification exam, the letter in the mail, my
first National conference, and the first friend
that I made in Chapter 73. I have enjoyed
meeting the many CSTs and CFAs or CSAs in our
state and from other states. These moments and
experiences have helped to defined me as a
Surgical Technologist and a person.
Maybe you do not believe that
you have anything to offer, but you do… Whether
you have attended a work shop in the past or
not, allow MSA to be a part of your life.
Don’t miss the workshop in Traverse City, become
involved, and let us be a part of your memories:
Fall into the Future with us!
